If I was here on a tourist visa, do I have to count those days for purposes of determining my residency status if I am an F-1 student now?
- Tax residency determinations can be very complex. Generally, if you are on a F or J Student Visa you are considered a non resident alien for income tax purposes for your first five years in the United States. If you are present in the US on a non student J Visa you are considered a non resident 2 out of every 7 years.
